The nut weevil (German: Haselnussbohrer) is a type of beetle that bores into nuts and lays its eggs inside. The larvae then eat their way out, damaging the nut in the process. It attacks a variety of nuts, including acorns, chestnuts, and hazelnuts. Nut weevils are found throughout Europe and parts of Asia.
