Today NASA’s Artemis 1 mission is supposed to launch.
The Artemis 1 unmanned mission will be carried out by NASA’s new Orion spacecraft, which is designed to carry crewed missions beyond low Earth orbit. Orion will launch atop NASA’s powerful new Space Launch System rocket, and will have travelled more than 2 million kilometers in 37 days before returning home.
The Artemis 1 mission is a critical first step in NASA’s plans to establish a sustainable presence on the moon, and pave the way for future human exploration of Mars. The mission will provide valuable data on the Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System, and will help NASA prepare for future crewed missions to deep space.
