I’ve lost count of my trips to the Netherlands – it’s easily the country I’ve visited most. Somewhere between the flat horizons, the glass facades of Amsterdam and the kindness of my Dutch friends, I started bringing a camera. This collection gathers those impressions: postcards from Holland and Belgium, shot along the way.

Our project “Small Beings – Big Responsibility” wants to inspire people’s interest in the protection of life. With fascinating images, scientific background and informative texts—as well as captivating stories—the importance of biodiversity will be brought closer to the hearts of readers.

Shot in Berlin

My father was born in Berlin. My grandmother lived in Berlin. My wife and I spent our first days together in Berlin. We married in Berlin. My mother-in-law used to live in Berlin. You can see why I love this city. Berlin is a European capital of nostalgia and whenever things are not going well on our continent, all eyes turn to Berlin.

It all started in 2020 - the Corona crisis had abruptly reduced my personal, creative “photo radius”. As a result, I wandered through and enjoyed my beautiful Franconian homeland with an even more alert eye. Hamburg, Berlin and South Tyrol were replaced by Erlangen, Bubenreuth and Franconian Switzerland.

Mountains are magical places for me, they quickly flip the awe switch. And the message is always similar: I am tiny and insignificant in a world of grandiose scenery. Whether Timmelsjoch, Zugspitze, the pale mountains of the Dolomites or “the roof of Europe” (Mont Blanc)—each of these regions makes me feel my connection to our world in a very unique way.

Here, you’ll find some impressions from beautiful France. This neighbor across the Rhine is both a cultural icon and always worth a visit for many of us Germans. From the timeless elegance of Paris—with the Louvre’s treasures and the Tour Eiffel piercing the sky above the Seine—to the dramatic coastline of Normandie, where the tide continuously reshapes the landscape, France never fails to surprise.

Shot in Hamburg

Impressions of Germany’s second largest city Hamburg—a city that is also known in German as the gateway to the world. Hamburg, with its harbor and piers, has always had an international flair, and this has shaped Hamburg’s cultural and musical scene. My favorite band from Hamburg, Kettcar, wrote the song “Landungsbrücken raus”.

Shot on Amrum

Just like in the Alps, Amrum offers a very special light. The scenery is characterized by one of the widest sandy beaches in Europe. And it feels like you can see much more sky here than anywhere else. Thanks to clever tourism Amrum managed to avoid high-rise buildings, so you can actually still feel something like solitude on some beaches—at least at the right time of day or night.
